As the accounting manager of Charles & Keith International, Ms Joan Lim has to cope with the responsibilities of generating group finance reports for over 20 outlets in Singapore, including retail sales and merchandise. In addition, she also has to consolidate the reports by the different countries, with numerous concept stores and outlets in the Asia-Pacific and Gulf regions.
Given the rapid expansion and the phenomenal success of the Charles & Keith signature label, her workload could only get heavier. As she willingly admits, "Staying in office past 9pm each day was quite common".
Using the BAR techniques, however, allows her to generate her reports effortlessly, even equipping her with the ability to customize and improvise on her reports - across different products, different countries.
The ease of report generation for such a mammoth task was apparent. "It saves me a lot of time! It is almost like a one-step effort; in the past, there was plenty of "copy and paste" action."
And it was not only Joan who could see the transformation in her work, and the benefits after attending the BAR programme. Her immediate superior, Mr. Dicky Koh, Charles & Keith International's Group Finance Manager, was very impressed with her reports as well.
"I could do comparison between the different entities - my boss definitely appreciates that."
Dicky acknowledges as much.
"Joan's reports generated information which is very helpful to our business; instead of mere figures, we could now also assess and analyze our business's health by looking at colorful charts and graphs."
Right now, yes, Joan is busier than before.
Dicky explained, "She has to help others with their reports, to train them on what she knows...! And after seeing what she could do, other staff have requested to go for the BAR training as well."
Not that Joan is complaining.
"I can now go off from work around 6 to 7plus in the evening more often." She says, with a contented smile.
